This month, April 2020, we are a featured article in Label & Narrow Web’s Magazine!
The article, published by L&NW‘s editor – Greg Hrinya, showcases our company’s history, growth, employees, equipment, culture & more. The article begins by introducing Tony Cook, our CEO, and where he began.
Tony graduated from Ferris State University in 1992 with an insurance degree. He quickly decided to forego being an insurance salesman and got into the labeling industry from a job lead from a friend. Hrinya outlines Cook’s story from here, all the way to where he is now – 25 years into owning Great Lakes Label.
Growth:
Today, Great Lakes Label has six presses and more than 60 employees. Cook operates out of a 26,000 square-foot facility, which the company moved to in 2005. Great Lakes Label is in the midst of a growth spurt, and Cook anticipates his most profitable year yet in 2020. (Hrinya wrote in the feature)

Next, the Mark Andy presses & lean manufacturing processes were showcased. This equipment & these processes are to thank for much of the growth of the company, along with the outstanding employees we have.
25 years later, where Cook began operating out of a one-bedroom apartment, now in a 26,000 sqft building, he’s most proud of his employees. He says, “All the managers of the different departments are from the floor, people that had worked with me for years and have a real eye for scheduling, purchasing, R&D and team management. Most of the people in leadership roles were running a piece of equipment here and have now moved into a director role of that segment of business.”
He admires their hard work, dedication & knowledge that has ultimately helped the company grow. Cook hopes for this year, 2020, to be one of the best years yet – and we can’t wait to see!
