It will revolutionize how you write.

Or, those who like to save time.

Get Inspired: Spirits Labels With Foiling

A fantastic way to create sophisticated looking spirits labels is by using a foiling technique. Whether the design is modern or traditional, adding foil can make a dramatic impact. Especially if you are creating a luxury product, foil will emphasize quality.

The design of this brand is tongue in cheek. It is based off of traditional medicine design with popular Serbian fruit flavors. In Serbia fruit brandies can be considered a form a medicine, aiding with everything from digestion to mood. Whether or not this belief is true, the label design plays on it, attracting a diverse group of demographics. The foiling on the borders and fruit design provide a cohesive and high end look for the line of products.

This name is also an old gaelic word for spirit and insanity. This label was designed with the unstable, fictional character Jim Moriarty from the 2011 show, Sherlock, in mind. Since Moriarty is a classy guy, adding the foil is a crucial touch. The skulls give this design a hard edge, but the foil provide the sophistication. This traditional look fits well with the gaelic theme.

While the above examples lean toward the traditional, this packaging leans toward the modern. It does so in a very elegant way. The label itself utilizes minimalistic design, which further emphasizes the use of foiling. Since this is centenary edition packaging, sophistication is key and this label delivers. The foil on the label also matches well with the metallic packaging.

Get Inspired: Labels With Wood Motifs

Where nature inspired labels are concerned, wood is a great design. This is because texture can be added to the label in a simple, but effective way. Whether you raise the pattern with tactile screen, emboss the text or add grit coat, you can give your design a realistic edge. Here are some designs that stand out without techniques, but could easily use them to enhance the design.

The label was designed to look like a tree stump. It’s purpose is to give off the natural feeling, reminding the customer that their products are environmentally friendly. While this design only uses neutral colors, the contrast and the realistic motif creates a unique look that catches the eye. If tactile coating was used on each ring of the stump, it would take the realism to the next level.

This label features a wooden barrel, the wine stock for the pressure sensitive label also adds wood-like texture to the design. The title, “FIRESTONE” is also perfectly emphasized with a foiled outline of copper. If you’re targeting a more mature demographic, wood veneers are preferred by the thirty and over crowd. Embossing the barrel would be a fantastic way to make it stand out and compliment the foiling.

This product, aimed at hikers, uses a chipboard design and scouting symbols to connect nature with nostalgia. A simple association that makes the wrapping pop. The neutral wood flakes also allow for the neon yellow title to stand out and draw attention on the grocery store shelf. Adding grit coat to the rough looking wood would be a fantastic way to make the design more realistic.

Social Media Sharing Is Social Selling Your Label
by

Social Media Sharing Is Social Selling Your Label

It is no secret that social media sharing plays a strong role in brands connecting with customers. Use that connection to promote new packaging and new releases through social sharing. Instead of relying on only traditional means, it’s time to forge relationships online.

Social Media Sharing Announcements

bud light redesign - social media sharing is social sellingThis image of the new Bud Light design received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments. On Facebook, it received hundreds of shares and thousands of likes. An impressive set of stats.

These posts would have made their way into more news feeds as followers shared it.  That’s good for the marketing budget. Now, a wide group of people see the new branding. This simple post makes it easier to recognize the product in-store.

Packaging Designed For Sharing

pepsi emojis on bottle label designsBy now you’ve probably seen Pepsi’s emoji labels. These labels designs keep social media sharing in mind. People would enthusiastically post pictures of their emoji label, instantly becoming somewhat of a Pepsi brand ambassador in their circle of online connections.

Online Shopping Culture

With so many people taking to the internet to buy products, staying competitive is important. So, make it easy for people to see your product and find out where to get it once released. The downside is that your customers don’t have the ability to pick up your product and look at it when they shop online. However, even utilizing video on social media can make a big impact in showcasing techniques on your labels. Make it easy for your customers to see themselves using your product.

Tell A Story

Stories are the most powerful way you can get customers to connect with your brand, understand your products’ benefits and see themselves purchasing it. Social media is also the perfect medium to share stories, long and short. Use your platforms to share the story of how your label was designed. Maybe show your customers how your products are made. Socially share what you do to create products worth buying. Do you have an environmentally conscious facility or suppliers? Showing how that effects your label makes it easier for customers to align themselves with your goals.

Viral hits cannot be predetermined, but making it easier for people to share your label makes a big impact. Any brand, big or small, can effectively promote their labels and design them with social media impact in mind.

Get Inspired: Labels With A Water Motif

Nothing is more refreshing and cooling than water. It’s heating up outside, so cool down with these designs. These packages and labels incorporate water motifs you’ll love.

Chung says about the design, “Flowater is a tetra pak of drinking water, which is extracted from flowers that have a healing property for human body. The logo is the water drop shape that contains the ingredient inside.” The cool color scheme perfectly compliments water motif and theme of purity on the container’s package.

What’s cool about these designs is that they are named after the capital of the country the water originates from. Obviously the bottle’s label design is incredibly unique as well, and has a water top texture unlike any other water bottle label. The color scheme is fitting and sophisticated as well. Especially with the cork top and seal, this bottle’s label is unlike any other water packaging.

This slim bottle packaging concept is a fit better into bags and purses. The curvy shape fits well into the water motif on the package and the hue of the bottle matches well with the cool tone theme repeated with the above examples. Since water is such a basic product, the label design makes it stand out.

This seasonal dessert is not only packaged in an unconventional way, but it also has a unique label design. The seasonal color scheme perfectly suits the retro-inspired fonts and design. Plus,  the label is small and simple. Not only does this showcase the gelato itself, but it further emphasizes the bold orange and cool green and blue hues.

This packaging was designed to make it simple for customers to understand the flavor of the lemonade with just a single glance. This summer packaging is so much more enticing with big, bold fruit front and center. Again, the warm reds and golds pair perfectly with the meadowy greens, creating a balanced, but vibrant, color scheme.

Summer is the perfect season to focus on your garden (even an indoor plant or two). That’s why this product design and concept is perfect to get your creative juices flowing.

Garcia said about her product concept, “These premium seeds and soil will help your plants grow without the use of preservatives or chemical enhancers. In dedication to environmental conservation, Tierra Selva packages its products with reusable glass containers as well as recycled papers to minimize waste.”

This shows in the minimalistic, crafty design. With neutral colors and simple hamsa, this packaging really seems to be rooted in nature and positive energy that summer can bring.

How To Choose Colors For Your Label
by

How To Choose Colors For Your Label

Australia’s decision to use plain, brown packages for cigarette packaging to deter smokers re-ignites an interesting conversation to choose colors with impact. What best suits your packaging and also compliments your brand? Thanks to social conditioning and even natural associations, colors have a big impact on label design. The below graphic highlights what colors to use depending on the area of your business.

Time To Choose Colors

chart to help choose colors and business sectors

Use the above graphic to choose colors best associated with your product. The answer may have surprised you, or perhaps you disagree completely.

So, about brown packaging discouraging cigarette purchases…

So, this isn’t the be all and end all of the color association, however, it does instead provide a lot of valuable insight into design. What’s funny is that this graphic shows that brown also makes people think of delicious food. That’s certainly not the message the Australian government is trying to send with deterring smokers.

This raises an interesting question. Can color association vary person to person, upbringing to upbringing? That’s a likely possibility. Of course, testing and gathering feedback is a valuable tool in getting valuable insight, targeting the direction of your product’s design.
