The Ultra Violet and green combination are on polarizing ends of the color wheel. It makes the design pop against the white bottle. Enhancing the purple with foiling, such as MiraFoil, is a way to further enhance the vibrancy.

Get Inspired: Pantone’s Greenery

Last week we discussed the impact the new Pantone color of the year, Greenery, will have on label design.  Today, we’re looking at inspiring examples of the color in use on packaging.  As you will see, no matter what industry you are in, this color creates a modern, bold and calming look.

This label prominently features the color Greenery in the title. While the color isn’t covering the entirety of the package, it effectively creates a bold look. The looping details of the font adds a softness similar to that of a leaf. This further emphasizes the natural element of the color of the year.

These labels are different shades, but both are very close to the Greenery color. Unlike the first example, this label uses a major pop of color to draw the eye, however, the minimalistic style creates a modern look. The fact that green and black are the total color scheme also makes the packaging have a calming look overall.

Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017
by

Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017

Pantone’s color of the year  is 15-0343. It is also known as Greenery, and is a reflection of the desire to refresh in a nature focussed environment. Pantone chose the color based on patterns found in fashion, and design as well as a symbol shifting cultural emotions. This color will influence label and packaging design in 2017, so how will it impact your branding?

PANTONE Color of the Year 2017

PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery is the PANTONE Color of the Year selection for 2017! A fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Greenery symbolizes the re-connection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose amid a complex social and political landscape.

Incorporate Pantone’s Greenery in your label design.

There’s a chance your label may already be utilizing the revitalizing color. Consider how natural elements will enhance the color, and the philosophy behind it. The idea behind the choice is that we as a global community are all seeking nature, and calm in such a chaotic and challenging world. Represent these ideas through motifs or soft, impressionistic shapes.

If your label is not using the color Greenery, but does not have room for it in the label color scheme, consider rebranding possibilities. Or, use Greenery on promotional or seasonal labels.

Take a look at these color incorporations.

All above labels are produced by Great Lakes Label, including some Label Gator Brand designs. No labels are a perfect match to the color of the year since they were all designed and printed before the announcement.

Okay, disclaimers are over. Let’s analyze.

In line with the philosophy of the choice, many designs feature grass, plants, and leafy symbols. You can see how this imagery creates a calming tone. What you may not be able to tell is that these motifs are being used across a wide range of industries.

  • Food products
  • Wine
  • Beer
  • Milk
  • Pet Food
  • Cleaning products
  • Plants

You’ll also notice that while calming, it provides a bright, bold look which draws the eye. Some of the labels pictured above use techniques such as foiling, and tri-panel labeling. The possibilities are endless.
