In a previous blog, we spoke about a few crucial elements in successful security labeling. Security enhancement in packaging design is ideal for all industries, not just pharmaceutical labels. Show the customer their purchase is authentic. Even with luxury products and handcrafted items. Instead of focussing on the negatives, use positive force to enhance your packaging.

Tamper Proof Security Labeling

Of course, a simple tamper proof option is to create a label that breaks once the product has been opened. For many food products, this can be an effective and affordable option. This is something that could even be printed using a digital press, where variable data can be added to the packaging. This could be as simple as a unique QR code. By scanning it, the customer could be lead to a document of authentication, or it could use track and trace, proving the product is genuine.

Invisible Inks

Printing with invisible inks or printing with high-resolution flexo plating for micro text are other options brands are moving toward.  They both can do a good job of ensuring secure packaging design. This would even end up being more difficult for fraudulent businesses to replicate.

Techniques Make Replication Difficult

Using labeling techniques to your advantage could be another way for customers to sense whether or not the purchase is authentic. Subtle details with MiraFoil or tactile coating can emphasize the brand is who they claim to be.

One issue that is becoming more and more apparent is the rise of e-commerce. Don’t spend money digging up frauds, hiring lawyers and serving justice. Instead, simply create packaging that is difficult to replicate could end up saving money. While holograms and security inks are still common, those techniques are easy to replicate.
