While you design your label, you’re going to hear many rules that you need to follow for your design. These rules are both lengthy and contrasting. Some say you should always innovate, and some say to stick to an aesthetic that customers will grow to count on. Here are three rules to completely forget about.
3. Consistency, Consistency, Consistency
Promotional labels, Instant Redeemable Coupons (IRCs) and your regular labels should not look the same. Also, smart packaging and labeling technology are on the rise. As such, there is no harm in incorporating NFC or RFID technology to enhance the customer experience. Add a QR code to your design that links the customer to helpful tutorials, or information.
This rule also goes for innovative labeling techniques. Adding foil to your logo is not going to shock the customer out of buying your product. In fact, sensory marketing only serves to enhance the shopping experience. It also makes it more likely that they will pick up your item, which in turn makes it more likely for them to purchase it.
2. Stick With What You Know
Sustainability and technology in labeling are ever evolving. As new techniques come out to create convenience for the customer or a greener earth, pay attention. Labels can look exactly the same but use a new, environmentally friendly label stock. Then, this change can be promoted on the label to show customers that your priorities align with theirs.
1. Luxury Design Rules All Else
Actually, many luxury design practices, such as using innovative labeling techniques, are creeping into label designs for handmade products. Good design is good design, period. It’s not reserved for luxury packaging. Considering the customers’ needs is king. Always create from an empathetic perspective.
